Air show

Gord and I walked over to the Brazen Head for lunch. Our intent was to hang out and watch the air show. We discovered that they have the upper patios closed because it's a long weekend.

Huh?!

So after we ate, we walked towards the air show and ended up on the patio of Cafe Jolly (Dufferin/King W). We've walked by it many times but have never stopped in. It's a cute place and we'll be back.

The view was pretty good for the most part. Lots of plans flew right over us!

Plus it was amazing to watch the constant stream of people heading to the Ex.

Happy anniversary, Sarah and Joey

Kajama, Toronto, ON

I hosted a Single Horizons event today (that's why I'm wearing the lei) ... sailing on Toronto Harbour on the Kajama.

It was a 1.5 hour cruise that hugged the shore westward.

Looking back at Toronto

See ya, Sherry and Brock!

Our neighbours, Sherry and Brock, moved today.

They bought a house in North Toronto ... with plans to get married next year and start having kids.

Brock moved in shortly after I did in 2001. Sherry moved in a couple years later.

They have been fun neighbours and we'll miss having them so handy!

Look how sad Brock is to leave!

Book ~ "The Windows Vista Book" (2008) Matt Kloskowski and Kleber Stephenson

From Amazon.com ~ With so many books out there on Windows Vista, what makes this one better and different is its focus. While other Vista books can regularly be 500 or more pages, this book cuts through all the technical jargon and gives you exactly what you want: the most important, most requested, and just plain coolest things about Vista that will change the way you work on your PC. Each page covers just one topic, complete with full color photos and screenshots, making it easy to find what you’re looking for fast. You’ll learn how to take advantage of Vista’s newest features in order to better manage your digital photos, secure your computer, play your music, customize your computer’s look and feel, work with video, back up your data, and much, much more.

When I bought my laptop in January, it came with Windows Vista, which I'd never even heard of before! My neighbour, Brock, had told me which laptop to buy and advised me to try Vista. If I didn't like Vista, he said he'd install Windows for me. Deal!

So I poked around, figured out some stuff and stuck with it. It wasn't so bad.

This book was great for filling in the blanks and teaching me things I didn't even know I had to know!

Now I realize what a powerful operating system is!

Let's go to the Ex!

I walked to the Ex this afternoon (it's about a 15 minute walk south of us).

I saw the SuperDogs show. Man, those dogs are fast and smart!

I don't play the midway games but there are a lot of them!

I'm a wimp (always have been!) and there's no way I'd go on these rides!

The Tilt-a-Whirl is more my speed, though I didn't go on it.

I had my first Beaver Tail ever. Basically it's a deep-fried flat piece of dough (in the shape of a beaver's tail ... duh!) that is dipped in whatever you want! I had with cinnamon and sugar.

The butter carvings were ... um, interesting.

There were lots of animals, including babies.

Sand sculturing
would take a lot of patience!

I wandered around the shopping areas. Lots of great clothing deals if you are young and/or skinny! I bought some stretchy pants for the gym and a polo shirt for Gord ($5 each).

I stopped in at the casino and played/lost $20 on the roulette table. Gord's number came up 2 out of the 4 spins it took me to lose my $$ so he would have won $144 had he been there!

It was a fun afternoon ... I was there for almost five hours!

Casey's Restaurant, Toronto, ON

The Chillin' Chicks met for supper tonight at Casey's.

We haven't all gotten together since the weekend in Dunsford in June. It was good to catch up.

Job Vent

Check out this interesting site I just came across ... Job Vent.

Want to safely vent about a past or present job (and help others avoid the same fate)? Think your company is amazing and deserves some hand claps and recognition? Looking for a new job and want to do some reconnaissance beforehand?

JobVent.com lets employees candidly review companies they've worked for, whether it's for catharsis, altruism or a combination of the two. Search for specific companies by name, or browse names alphabetically. Each reviewed company has a cumulative score based on ratings by employees, plus honest and helpful reviews and explanations.

I found a couple of my former employers listed and it was interesting to read others' opinions.

Spilly Pants is a pervert

My favourite beer is Alexander Keith's. I like the taste and the fact that it is from Nova Scotia (where I'm originally from).

A couple years ago, the ads promoting it featured a loud abrasive but funny Scotsman ...

Portrayed by Robert Smith.

Then Robert Smith was arrested for "possessing and disseminating" child pornography.

He was then fired and hasn't been able to find a job since (duh!).

He was sentenced yesterday to just 21 months in jail.

He will probably only serve between one and two thirds of that sentence which I think is very very sad. He should be put away for much much longer and have to serve his entire sentence.

You can read the Toronto Star article about it here.
