I was invited to the book launch of Rachel Manley's new book, Horses in her Hair, at Ben McNally Books tonight.
Rachel is a very nice lady who lives in my neighbourhood, who I've gotten to know over the last five years.
Rachel's dad was Michael Manley, a prime minister of Jamaica. Horses in her Hair is about Michael's mother/Rachel's grandmother, Edna Manley. Edna was a British-born sculptor and painter who married Norman Washington Manley, founder of Jamaica’s first national party. She moved to Jamaica and had two sons (one being Michael). She is credited with developing the country’s art movement.
It sounds like an interesting story so check it out!
Here is Rachel signing my book:
There was a long line of people wanting her to sign their books.
It was catered with yummy Jamaican food.
Rachel gave a ten minute reading from a passage about preparing for Edna's funeral.
I'd never been to a book launch before and it was packed with people!
Horses in Her Hair is the third book about her family and their contributions to Jamaica's cultural and political evolution. Drumblair: Memories Of A Jamaican Childhood, which won the Governor General’s Literary Award for non-fiction in 1997, is about her grandfather, Norman Washington Manley. Slipstream: A Daughter Remembers is about his son/Rachel's father, Michael Manley.

The food looks delicious!
Btw: Sorry I haven't been around that much lately - fall is an hectic season at work.
