Gord and I saw The Producers this afternoon at Stage West.
Mel Brooks' classic cult comedy film is turned into a Broadway musical about a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer, Max Bialystock, and his mild mannered accountant, Leo Bloom, who come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (all "little old ladies") out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! At the core of this insanely funny adventure is an emotional journey of two very different men who become friends.
Gord and I had seen the big splashy Mirvish production a couple years ago and enjoyed it.
The last few plays we've seen at Stage West haven't been that great so I wasn't really expecting much.
But I was pleasantly surprised ... it's good.
My only complaint is that the quality of the food (we do the brunch buffet) has gone downhill.

Toronto Nationals vs Long Island Lizards, BMO Field, Toronto, ON
Gord and I went to the Toronto Nationals lacrosse game tonight.
There wasn't a large crowd ... it's the first year for them (they were in Rochester last year).
Our seats were good.
It's a fast fun game.
Then the clouds came in (even though there was no rain in the forecast!).
And it started pouring.
And they played on.
But when the thunder and lightening started, the players scampered off the field.
There was a 30 minute delay and then the game carried on.
And it was still raining.
Here we are sitting in the rain!
We finally gave up at the end of the third quarter and grabbed a cab home. We were soaked!
But some fan stayed.

"Sound of Music", The Princess of Wales Theatre, Toronto, ON
After lunch, Sister Sarah and I took the subway and got off at Yonge/Bloor.
We walked down Yonge Street and met Gord for supper at Pizza Rustica (King W/Blue Jays Way).
Then Sister Sarah and I saw The Sound of Music at the The Princess of Wales Theatre.
The movie is her favourite so I thought she'd like to see it ... and she did.
She had noticed yesterday it's playing here and mentioned it would be nice to see it ... but I put her off. That's because I'd gotten us tickets last month for it and planned to surprise her tonight. Hee hee hee!
I've never seen the movie so didn't really know the story. It's entertaining and goes by really quickly.
Kids in plays usually annoy me but these ones were good.

Humber Bay Park East, Toronto, ON
On our way home from Port Dover, we stopped at Humber Bay Park East.
Here's Sister Sarah.
It was really windy and the waves were higher than usual.
Here's me ... see how windy it was!
This beach is usually calm.
Then we went to Island Foods for supper. Sister Sarah had a veggie roti with chick peas and here's my chicken roti. Yum!

Port Dover, ON
Sister Sarah and I drove to Port Dover today (about two hours SW of us).
We had lunch at Willie's,which is a block from the beach.
Even though it was chilly and cloudy, we went to the beach, a block away.
Chia Kitty was sad it was too cold to go swimming.
We walked towards the lighthouse.
We stopped at a monument dedicated to fishermen.
There were some men fishing for perch on the wharf.
Here I am!
There's a cute store called Grand Trunk Station ... I bought some incense.
We went back to the beach. Here's Sister Sarah.
Here's me in the sand.
And Sister Sarah.
This fella didn't mind the cold. Neither did his buddies.

Collingwood Scenic Caves and Suspension Bridge, ON
Sister Sarah and I went to the Collingwood Scenic Caves today.
It was a gorgeous day!
We started by climbing the stairs into the woods.
It's quite a climb but we made it ... here's Sister Sarah standing at the proof!
There's quite a view at Signal Point. It's 550 metres above sea level and you can see about 10,000 kms towards Georgian Bay and beyond.
This is the Indian Council Chamber. Hundreds of years ago, natives would hold meetings there by putting a log across to get there to ensure privacy.
We went down into the cavern.
It was cool there ... literally! There's still snow and ice in the cavern. Here I am sitting in the snow, throwing a snowball at Sister Sarah.
After we finished exploring the caves and caverns, we followed the path back through the woods.
Then we crossed the Suspension Bridge. It's Southern Ontario's longest suspension footbridge.
Chia Kitty came with us. He found it relaxing to sit by the pond afterwards.

Fionn MacCool's, Toronto, ON
Gord, Sister Sarah and I met Monica and Mark (our former neighbours) this afternoon at Fionn MacCool's at Yonge/St. Clair.
Sandy MacIntyre and Steeped in Tradition started at 4:00.
A fella jumped in and started playing the spoons for a while.
Boxing Babes, Susan, Yvette and Beata (who is visiting from Winnipeg), showed up. It was awesome to see them!
The Boxing Babes:
It was a fun time!
There was a "down home" kind of feeling at the bar. There were stepdancers jumping up and dancing. A couple times, the whole audience got up on the dance floor and everyone held hands and danced and sang.
Gord wore the teeshirt Sister Sarah had given him from A & K Lick-a-Chick (it's a KFC-like restaurant in Bras d'Or, NS).
There were a lot of Cape Bretoners in the audience and Gord's teeshirt was a big hit.
