The fire started this morning about 6:00 on a roof deck in the building furthest from us.
It was put out in about ten minutes and, on the news, they are estimating about $75,000 in damage. We'll have to wait and see what the fire marshal determines the cause to be.
Thankfully no one was hurt.
I took these pictures when I got home from Deb's ... they were tarping the roof deck.

Brings back bad memories ... our condo corporation had another fire in July 2002.I was working from home that day and someone knocked on our door just after noon and said the roof was on fire. I stuffed our cat (who has since died) in a carrier, grabbed our two dogs (one has since died) and my purse and ran out. As I was crossing the street, I heard an explosion ... it was a BBQ propane tank exploding.
It was a major fire that started on one of the roof decks above us. Total damage was about $1 million and again, thankfully, no one was hurt.
We live in a lower unit and I didn't realize the implications until our property manager said that we wouldn't be back in for a while ... we had no fire damage but lots of water damage (where else was the water going to go?).
We were told that we would be out for about two weeks ... we ended up being out for two months. Some residents didn't get back in 'til the spring of the next year.
Gord and I were planning our wedding ... we got married three weeks later. Needless to say, we had to make a lot of last minute changes.

Thankfully your place was spared. Puts quite the damper on the weekend. Hope you still managed to have a good time while you were away. Looks like a lovely place to get aways.
It's really tough going through a fire. We were forced out of our home back in 1989 because the home we were renting burned down.

That first fire sounded really terrible---to be out of your home for two months......! Glad to hear this most recent one wasn't as severe...But the damage you showed looks pretty bad.
These picturs are really sad and I am really sorry for your cat had to die becaus of the fire. Take care for the future and best of luck.
ugh thats awful! it scares me to think of a fire, id be chasing cats until I burned to death.

Yikes! Sorry to hear that you will have to make yet another large investment in your property, but at least no one was hurt. Hopefully you wont have anymore experiences with fires.

Unlike all your (smart) commenters, all I can think about is 'can we get a small fire at the office, so I can go home for the day? week?'... I think I need a vacation. :)
Wow. Sure does bring back memories Teena. I am so sorry to hear this happened again. I know this is the last thing Sudbury needs. I hope the affected homes can be fixed quickly and everyone can get back to their lives. I am sending positivity to everyone on the condo board. - Monica
