The hill's strategic value was the primary reason that the British military chose to establish a presence on the eastern side of the peninsula along The Narrows during the late 1740s to counter a growing French presence at Fortress Louisbourg several hundred kilometres northeast.

Would love to visit there one day. Citadel Hill has an eerie ghost story and Halifax has some really spooky ghost stories I would love to check out in person. :) Great pics!
I LOVE that you posted the picture of you and your dad from back in the day. Isn't Halifax where all the victims of the Titanic are buried? I'd love to visit that graveyard, I read there is a J. Dawson there and that James Cameron based Jack from that tombstone.

The history there really makes me want to go back. I haven't been since I was a kid, and I don't remember getting to see that.

I work for Nova Scotia Tourism and there are some fun ghost walking tours. There are lots of stories stemming not only from the Fort but also from the Halifax Explosion that took place in December 1917 and killed over 2000 people. It was quite devastating for the city. Girl is right there area also many victims of the Titanic buried here. But Jack Dawson, definitely a fictional character. Still, it makes for an interesting tour of the city. You can see artifacts from the city at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.
I love the pic of Prince St with the clock tower in the distance...it is indeed steep. You can get a decent workout walking those hills downtown. Thanks for the pics!
