Gord and I went to the Havana Club Public Master Class, part of the Havana Cultura Festival in our 'hood. It was a free seminar about Cuban rum. Sweet!
Come join the Havana Club Brand Ambassadors from Havana, Cuba and learn about the origins of Cuban rum, the secrets of rum production and learn how to mix up a few classic Cuban cocktails.
It was held at LeVack Block on Ossington.
I've never seen so much Havana Club!
There were about 30 of us in the class ... we were given glasses of Havana Club and Coke when we got there.
Luis was creative!
Here's the agenda for the class.
Damien was from Cuba and did the first half of the seminar.
Here is the range of Havana Club's products.
We were given a drink of the barrel proof (about $50 a bottle).
Luis, a bartender in Cuba, and Fernando, who works for Havana Club, made the three basic Cuban rum drinks along with volunteers.
Gord got one of the mojitos ... it was so good!
As they made the drinks, we got a sample glass of each.
Then they made variations.
I got a full glass of the Havana Mulata, which was surprisingly good.
I was surprised that dark rum and cranberry juice tasted so good.
There was a bit of a bite to this one.
A mojito with bubbly ... such a nice touch!
At the end of the seminar, they made everyone a mojito ... yum!
They had draws for a trip for two to Cuba, a bar set and a couple bottles of rum. Alas, Gord and I didn't win anything.
This sounds absolutely fabulous Teena..wow.... how much did it cost? How far out did you have to book it???
ReplyDeleteIt was free! It was part of the annual Havana Cultura Festival.
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome event! I went to a bartender "course" for my birthday a few years ago and it was a blast. And of course, the "sampling" is always the best part! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the free event..how long ago did you book it?
ReplyDeleteWe RSVPed a couple weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteYou really got some great photos during this event. I especially love the strawberry (GREAT macro!), but the bottles and glasses all lines up are wonderful, too.

ReplyDeleteWhat a cool event!
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't win a trip on top of it all.
