Book ~ "The Lacemakers of Glenmara" (2009) Heather Barbieri

From www.HeatherBarbieri.com ~ "You can always start again," Kate Robinson’s mother once told her, "all it takes is a new thread." Overwhelmed by heartbreak and loss, the struggling twenty-six-year-old fashion designer follows her mother’s advice and flees to Ireland, hoping to break free of old patterns and reinvent herself.

Soon Kate is stranded in the Gaelic village of Glenmara, a hamlet in western Ireland with charms and problems of its own. There she develops a bond with members of the local lacemaking society.

Under Glenmara’s spell, Kate finds the inspiration that has eluded her and she and the lacemakers create a line of exquisite lingerie - and gain the strength to face long-denied desires and fears. But not everyone welcomes Kate to Glenmara and a series of unexpected events threatens to unravel everything the women have worked so hard for . . .

This isn't an overly exciting book but I enjoyed it.

The tone of it reminded me of the movie Calendar Girls.

I like most of the characters, especially Bernie who is happily filling in a gap in her life since her husband had died last year.

I hated Aileen and the priest ... why did they have to be so mean and nasty?!

And I thought that Kate hooked up with a fella too quickly (sorry for the spoiler). The story takes place over less than a month. Considering she just had her heart broken by Ethan and was mooning over him as she was going around Ireland before she landed in Glenmara, I couldn't see this happening.
