Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Gord and I don't really celebrate Christmas. Our tradition, though, is to see a movie on Christmas Day.

We saw Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol this afternoon.

In the 4th installment of the Mission Impossible series, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise)and his team (Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton) are racing against time to track down a dangerous terrorist named Hendricks, who has gained access to Russian nuclear launch codes and is planning a strike on the United States. An attempt by the team to stop him at the Kremlin ends in a disaster, with an explosion causing severe destruction to the Kremlin and the IMF being implicated in the bombing, forcing the President to invoke Ghost Protocol, under which the IMF is disavowed, and will be offered no help or backup in any form. Undaunted, Ethan and his team chase Hendricks to Dubai, and from there to Mumbai, but several spectacular action sequences later, they might still be too late to stop a disaster.

We saw it in IMAX ... the theatre (which holds about 400 people) was packed. It's a great venue to see a movie like this. There is lots of action that is awesome on the HUGE screen.

With this movie, you have to leave your sense of belief at the door. There's no way that some of the things could happen (like Cruise running sideways on a tall building in Dubai) ... but it was fun to watch. You just have to go with it.

I liked Simon Pegg and he's funny.

It's over two hours but it never seems to drag.

  1. Tom cruise actually did his own stunts and did in fact run down the Dubai building. They showed the behind the scenes on Entertainment Tonight and he talked about that experience.

  2. My dad went and saw this the other day and he said he thought it was unbelievable. I never really got into the mission impossible movies, but who knows? Maybe I'll give it a watch one of these days.
