Book ~ "Treating Murder" (2013) Gabrielle Black

From Goodreads ~ Veronica Lane M.D. finds herself the subject of a murder investigation after her patient is found poisoned in the hospital. When the only witness to the murder turns up dead and the police arrest her, Dr. Lane is forced to try to solve the case herself. With her reputation, her freedom, and possibly her life on the line, Dr. Lane hunts down the killer. Her only help: an underage hooker, a local reporter and her handsome attorney. But even she is shocked when she finds out how close the murderer really is.

Veronica has had a patient named Sarah for many years who has MS.  Despite all treatments, she is getting worse.  Veronica proposes a radical treatment as a last resort.  The insurance company doesn't want to cover the expenses but eventually has to back down.  But Sarah suddenly dies and it's discovered she was poisoned ... and Veronica is arrested for the murder.  Veronica, along with her lawyer, Jamie, try to figure out who, in fact, murdered Sarah.

This is the first book I've read by this author.  I enjoyed the story and thought it was interesting.  For the most part, I liked the writing style but thought it could have been tighter.  I found it rambled sometimes.  The writing is in the first person, in Veronica's voice, though I found at that least once it switched to third person when she was in the scene.

I liked Veronica.  I found it a bit hard to believe, though, that once she discovered who her ex-husband, Steve, had an affair with that she wasn't more pissed.  She didn't seem to have any reaction at all which I found odd.

I'd check out future books by this author.

I received a copy of this ebook at no charge in return for my honest review.
