Toronto Rock 16, Calgary Roughnecks 11

Gord and I had gone to all of the Toronto Rock games last year and enjoyed them so we bought season's tickets for the 2014 games.  The Toronto Rock is a professional lacrosse franchise in the National Lacrosse League (NLL).

Tonight was the first game of the 2014 season.  The Rock were playing the Calgary Roughnecks.

The Rock cheerleaders entertained before the game started.

Then they welcomed the Rock players.

Like last year, Scotty Newlands sang the national anthem.

The Rock players huddled to get psyched.

And the game began ...

Last year we had bought tickets per game so sat in a few places to check 'em out.  We liked one spot and sat there often ... and that's where we bought our season's tickets (luckily they were available).  We liked the energy and enthusiasm of the fans around us ... and they are back again this season!

After the first quarter, the Rock was winning 7 -3.

The Rock cheerleaders entertained again in the second quarter.

The view from our seats ...

After the second quarter, the Rock were winning 9 - 4.

As a perk for being season ticket holders, we got a couple free tickets for tonight's game and invited Malcolm and Mary.  We'd met them for supper before the game and then again during the break between the second and third quarter.

The game was fairly scrappy.

The Rock cheerleaders entertained once again in the third quarter.

The Rock were leading 12 - 6 after the third quarter.

Iggy worked the crowd.

The final score was 16 - 11 for the Rock.  Yay!

The Rock players congratulated each other for a well-played game ...

Despite the roughness of the game, the players shook hands afterwards.

Then the Rock players thanked their fans for coming out ... the attendance was just over 10,000.

There was an after party for Rock fans at Joe Badali's ... Gord and I stopped in for a beer to check it out.

Homey Gord!

The cheerleaders, players, coaches and Scotty Newlands arrived ... we chatted with Scotty for a while.

Great game ... great way to start the season!

  1. Oh man, we hardly ever get to sporting events. It's hard with the kids - not to mention expensive.
