I had a meeting this afternoon in Burlington (about 40 minutes west).
I met Stacey, a colleague who was leading the meeting, at Jake's Grill and Oyster House for lunch, which was near where our meeting was. She had been there before and liked it.
We got there about 11:50am, just before the lunch rush.
Stacey ordered fish tacos (Bronzed tilapia, nappa cabbage, pico de gallo, flour tortillas and cilantro lime aioli). She'd had them there before and liked them. She wasn't overly happy with them today. She said they were overdone and not hot ... like they'd been precooked and then heated up.
I'm not a big fan of fish (I like a white fish like cod, haddock and halibut) so ordered the Kansas City Burger. When the burger arrived, I flipped it over and took off the bun to put mustard and relish on it ... and discovered that it was warm, charred and hard. I couldn't even poke my finger into it. Like Stacey's tacos, I suspect it was cooked ahead of time and then reheated (and forgotten). I'm amazed that the cook served it as it was that burnt :(
I brought it to the attention of Laura, our server. She wanted to take my entire meal away and replace it but I asked her to leave the fries, which were delicious, and bring a burger back when it was ready. I wanted to have something to eat while Stacey was eating. Here's my new burger ... it was hot and freshly cooked:
It was okay. The meat was really thick and kept sliding out of the bun.
The manager stopped by to apologize and my meal was deducted from the bill.
I doubt I'd go back.
I actually like my burgers charred. Not reheated, but VERY well done.
