Book ~ "Giant George: Life with the World's Biggest Dog" (2012) Dave Nasser and Lynne Barrett-Lee

From Goodreads ~ With his big blue eyes and soulful expression, George was the irresistible runt of the litter. But Dave and Christie Nasser's "baby" ended up being almost five feet tall, seven feet long and 245 pounds. Eager to play, and boisterous to the point of causing chaos, this big Great Dane was scared of water, scared of dogs a fraction of his size and, most of all, scared of being alone.

"Giant George" is the charming story of how this precocious puppy won Dave and Christie's hearts and along the way became a doggie superstar. In 2010, George was named by Guinness World Records as the Tallest Dog in the World - ever. He appeared on Oprah and even has his own global fan club. But to Dave and Christie, this extraordinary animal is still their beloved pet, the one who has made them laugh, made them cry and continues to make them incredibly happy.

Giant George (2005 - 2013) was a blue Great Dane recognised from 2010 to 2012 as the world's tallest living dog and the tallest dog ever by Guinness World Records.

When his owners, Dave (who wrote the book) and Christie got George when he was seven weeks old, he weighed 17 pounds ... a couple years later, he weighed in at 245 pounds (about 100 pounds heavier than the average Great Dane)!  Believe it or not, he was the runt of the litter!  He was 7'3" from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail.  He ate 110 pounds of food month!

The book tells the story of Dave and Christie (and eventually their two kids) and life with George.  They had just gotten married and moved to Arizona when they got him.  George grew and grew and grew and they adapted their lives around him.  The stories were great ... like when they were on Oprah and they were put up in the Governor's suite at a hotel.  They discovered that two single mattresses together on the floor still weren't big enough for a bed for George ... so he slept in the king-sized bed while Dave and Christie slept in the single beds!

Though huge, he sounds like he was an awesome and kind dog, friendly to everyone.

If you are a dog lover, you'll love this book!
