Pan American Food Festival, Toronto, ON

Gord and I went to the second annual Pan American Food Festival today... it was at Daniels Spectrum on Dundas Street E (east of Parliament).  The featured country was Peru.

A one of a kind gastronomic event is taking over the heart of Toronto, one that promises to reveal the flavours of the Americas, local artists and talent: The Pan American Food Festival.

From August 8th to the 10th, the second annual The Pan American Food Festival will showcase the best of the best food products, celebrating the great cultural diversity of the 41 countries of North, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. The Pan American Food Festival (PAFF) will showcase restaurants, food producers, chefs and the variety of national and regional cuisines of the Western Hemisphere, with a spotlight on one country each year.

A cultural festival of art, music and folklore will enhance the food experience to celebrate the region’s diverse cultural expression. 

There were vendors set up at on Regent Park Blvd selling jewelry, food, hats, lotions, etc.

We had supper.  Gord got Ceviche.  He said it was just delicious but there was too much juice, though.

I got a roast pork and rice dinner from D's Delectables ... it was good!  Gord got a half dinner.

We had Mexican beer and ate it on the Valdez Patio.

We checked out the Wine & Spirits Salon (it opened at 7:30pm).

They were selling tickets for drinks and food

I bought a glass of Sirah from Mexico ... it was okay.

I also bought a glass of Pinot Grigio from Italy.

You could get a sample of Pisco from Peru.

I had a sample of red wine

Gord had a couple Pisco Sours ... he said they were good.

You could buy food ...

There were lessons on how to make drinks.

This festival has possibilities.  What I would suggest is:

• Have better signage (we aren't familiar with the east end of Toronto and weren't sure if we had found it ... maybe it was a different street fair?)
• Have live music (the bar was playing music on the patio and there was a DJ in the salon)
• Have better signage for the salon (if you didn't know it was there, you wouldn't have gone in) 
• I wouldn't have known the featured country was Peru unless I'd read it on the website so I would have REALLY showcased it
