Square Boy, Toronto, ON

I had lunch today at Square Boy (on Danforth Avenue, just east of Jones Avenue).

You can play PacMan old-school!

The old dude at the counter was a hoot. He seemed gruff and cranky but I think it was all an act.  A guy ordered a pop and the old dude just stared at him. So the guy said he wanted a Coke. The old dude yelled at him, "No Coke, Pepsi!" (reminiscent of the Saturday Night Live skit). I was watching the exchange and laughed. The old dude caught my eye and smiled.

I ordered the homemade burger and a pop.  The difference between the hamburger and the homemade burger is the hamburger is frozen and the homemade burger is freshly made in-house and bigger ... I'm assuming it's worth the extra $1 to get the homemade burger.

It was $5.60 for the burger, pop and taxes.  The burger was delicious!  It was well-seasoned and juicy.  The bun was toasted but the top was soft, just the way I like it!

They have a good selection of Greek food too ... the chicken soulvaki on a pita looked yummy and I'll I'll try the next time.  I'll be back!

  3. I just saw your tweet! I love this place - I've only been late at night and the old guys ham up the cranky-ness - yelling at the phone to "shut up" and other such shenanigans - they are a hoot and the food is good and cheap.

And yes, the homemade burger is better than the frozen. Also, they deep fry the bacon if you get a banquet burger!

  4. I grew up right around the corner. I remember also so well when it was still a drive-in and all the hot rods would gather on Saturdays. Still the best burgers in Toronto!
