Book ~ "One Day in December" (2018) Josie Silver

From Goodreads ~ Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic ... and then her bus drives away.

Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend Sarah giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It's Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.

What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. "One Day in December" is a joyous, heartwarming and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.

In 2008, when Laurie transiting home from a job she's not crazy about, she looks out the window and locks eyes with a guy waiting at a bus stop.  Instantly she feels something and is sure the guy feels the same.  Before either can react, her bus pulls away and the moment is gone.  She and her best friend and roommate, Sarah, spend the next year looking everywhere for him (aka "Bus Boy") to no avail.

Then Sarah starts dating Jack ... and it's the guy from the bus stop!  Of course, Laurie can't say anything to Sarah.  Over the next ten years, their lives carry on in different directions with marriages, deaths, babies and new job opportunities, with the three of them involved in each other's lives ... and Laurie and Jack hiding how they really feel about each other.

I enjoyed this story and the characters.  I liked the writing style.  It's told in first person perspective alternating in Laurie and Jack's voice over the years ... the sections are labeled so you know whose voice it is and the time period.  At the end of the book are drink recipes according to the personalities and tastes of the characters.  As a head's up, there is swearing and adult activity.

I look forward to reading future books by this author.
