Open Cribbage Tournament, Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 31 Mount Dennis, Toronto, ON

Gord and I enjoy playing cribbage.  In fact, we were in a cribbage league for a couple years about fifteen years ago (we played once a week from September to June).  About 30 years ago, I was in a league at a legion when I lived in Antigonish, NS.  These days we play it on our iPads.

I came across a cribbage tournament that was being held at the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 31 Mount Dennis today and we both knew we had to go!

There were 52 teams in the tournament.

Gord and I were team #32.  We played 10 games and were a "moving team" (we moved from table to table) whereas there were other teams that stayed at the same table for all ten games.

The rules were on the tables.

Here were the prizes and the winners ...

Alas, Gord and I had four wins and six losses so didn't make the winners' board (not even close!).

There were two 50/50 draws, each were about $230.  We didn't win those either.

For each game, there was a $10 prize for the highest hand.  In our second last game, I had a 24-hand but so did two other people (one guy had two 24-hands in the same game!).  Rather than split the $10 four ways, we had to draw a card.  The lowest card won the $10 ... and that was me!  Gord got a 24-hand in the last game as did someone else so they split the $10 ($5 each).

So though we didn't win the big prizes, we did win some $$ and had a lot of fun.  We'll be back for the next one in April!
