The museum is dedicated to preserving the history and artifacts of the large population from Iceland who migrated to the Interlake region of Manitoba and now referred to as New Iceland, a region on Lake Winnipeg which was named for settlers from Iceland. It was settled in 1875.
Gord had heard about it a couple months ago and since we were nearby, we had to check it out. Can you imagine people emigrating from Iceland to and settling in northern Manitoba in the late 1800s?!
There are lots of souvenirs you can buy. Alas, they didn't have a cool teeshirt that caught my eye. But the Icelandic sweaters were awesome ... I've made quite a few in my day!

We started off by watching a 10 minute film about the history of New Iceland, which was very interesting.
Then we toured the museum.
You could buy their art.
There was a big rocks and minerals of Iceland display.
