The club is noted as being the first North American team to play in the Rugby Football League system, the first fully professional rugby league team in Canada and the world's first transatlantic rugby league team. Their home stadium is Lamport Stadium (aka "The Den"), which is just a couple blocks from where Gord and I live.
Today the Wolfpack were playing the Rochdale Hornets. Going into today's game, the Wolfpack was in first place with just one loss and Rochdale was in last place with just one win.
Here are Gord and I ...
Gord's friend and former work colleague, Roger, and Ben, Roger's dad, joined us.
The Rochdale Hornets had fans at the game.
The Wolfpack Dance Squad entertained ... today's theme was Country Day.
Jefferson, the Wolfpack mascot, and Gordo were decked out in their country gear.
Here come the Wolfpack players ...
God Save the Queen and O Canada were sung ...
And the game began ...
The game wasn't televised so Derek, a fan, livestreamed it on a
Wolfpack fan group on Facebook again this week
|
Alas, no streetcars were hit in today's game |
Section 35, Wolfpack fans |
The Wolfpack Dance Squad entertained again ...
The Junior Dance Squad also entertained ... they haven't been in the Den for a while.
Lee Michelle sang Boot Scootin' Boogie while members of the crowd line danced.
And the second half began ...
There was some pushing and shoving and words exchanged |
More pushing and shoving |
More pushing and shoving |
There was a thunder and lightening storm on the way and the game was put on hold until it passed ... the players started leaving the field.
More discussion ...
The players weren't sure whether to stay or go.
More discussion ...
They decided that the game would continue and the players came back.
And the game started again ...
Back to discussing the impending thunder and lightening storm ...
The game was called with less than seven minutes left to play ... the Wolfpack won 46 - 0. Fans were asked to "evacuate the stadium in an orderly manner immediately".
Rochdale showed their appreciation to their fans for attending.
Gord and I headed to the Brazen Head for an early supper (about a five minute walk away). We just got there when it started pouring and thundering and lightening. It was over in about ten minutes and the sun was shining again.
