Carlo’s Bake Shop, Richmond Adelaide Centre, Toronto, ON

Recently three cake vending machines from Carlo's Bake Shop appeared in the PATH downtown.  I'd read about them and how there have been line-ups and the machines have been running out of cake.  The machines are now filled twice a day.

I don't get downtown often but was today so figured I'd check one out.  The closest one to me was in the Richmond Adelaide Centre, just north of Rexall.  When I got in line, there were five people ahead of me and the line continued behind me as I waited my turn.

First you see what's available, pick what you want and then pay (credit or debit only).  A slice comes to about $11.

There were three flavours available (chocolate had run out and would be arriving in about a half hour) so I chose rainbow.  Here it comes!

There it is!

Don't forget to grab a fork.

I'm not big on sweets but I'm glad I tried it.  I can see what the fuss is about as it was a good piece of cake.  It will be interesting to see how long the machines last ... are they a passing fad or testing the marketing or there for good?

Interesting concept. Someone is going to make a fortune out of this venture.
